Arlington, VA - An Arlington family is sharing their remarkable story to emphasize the importance of proper CPR training. Their daughter, four-year-old Delaney Saslav, is set to be released from the hospital today after a five-month recovery from a near-drowning incident.

Pamela Brown reports on the critical role CPR played in saving Delaney's life. During a pool party in May, Delaney fell into the pool and was underwater for an estimated one to two minutes without oxygen. Dr. Jason du Luigi, a family friend, and Delaney's father immediately performed CPR until paramedics arrived. "I kept telling them we'll get her back just keep doing it," Dr. du Luigi recounted.

Their quick response and correct application of CPR techniques were crucial. "Had Delaney not received the correct form of CPR in those critical moments, her prognosis would have been very different," Dr. du Luigi explained. He highlighted that improper CPR can do more harm than good, stressing the importance of proper training. Current CPR guidelines emphasize starting with chest compressions to get blood flowing, with specific adjustments for children.

Delaney's recovery is a testament to the effectiveness of these life-saving techniques. "It's a skill that everybody should have, especially those with children," Dr. du Luigi urged.

As Delaney prepares to return to her normal activities, her family hopes her story will inspire others to get CPR training, potentially saving more lives in the future.
